Artved / Tazelaar / Moseholm / Romme ft. John Engels

Idiosyncratic quintet plays Great American Songbook and original work with Dutch drum legend.

The core of this quintet was formed in New York, where bassist Felix Moseholm, saxophonist Gideon Tazelaar, and guitarist Jacob Artved worked on a joint band sound for several years under the mentorship of George Coleman. Their interplay and individual musicianship were already noticed by greats such as Brad Mehldau, Wynton Marsalis, and Louis Hayes. For this European tour, the trio is complemented by Danish pianist Zier Romme, winner of the Ben Webster Prize, and the Dutch drum legend John Engels.

Engels, now 91 years old, has already won the Edison Lifetime Achievement Award and has played throughout his illustrious career with icons such as Chet Baker, Ben Webster, Dizzy Gillespie, and Art Farmer. The quintet brings favorites from the Great American Songbook, interspersed with their own compositions.
