Bushman’s Revenge

Norwegian band mixes the energy of rock with the freedom of jazz.

Every rock band should blast out of the speakers like Bushman’s Revenge, critics have already noted. The Norwegian trio sounds different than you would expect from experienced jazz musicians. On one side, there is the energy of Jimi Hendrix and Black Sabbath, and on the other side, the freedom of Alice Coltrane and Albert Ayler. Even composers like Ennio Morricone and Erik Satie left their marks. Thus, the surprisingly accessible sounding new album Ah, Les Vaches! was named after Satie's last words. For Bushman’s Revenge, the end is not yet in sight. Recently, a new member joined, Egil Kreken, also a bass guitarist in the blackjazz formation Shining.

Most of the songs on the new album were written by guitarist Even Helte Hermansen. He founded the band together with drummer Gard Nilssen, a renowned bandleader in Scandinavian jazz who has played on our stage more often with, among others, Acoustic Unity and Mathias Eick. Since its founding at the beginning of the millennium, twelve albums by Bushman’s Revenge have already been released, with original compositions alongside songs by, among others, Prince, Sonny Sharrock, and Sun Ra.
