Cassie Kinoshi & seed.
Visionary British saxophonist and her multifaceted ensemble celebrate their tenth anniversary.
Cassie Kinoshi is a figurehead of the 'new wave of British jazz'. The London and Berlin-based alto saxophonist has been performing on stages and festivals for ten years with her group .seed. But she also composes for film, theater, contemporary dance, and visual arts. What connects all her projects is the passion for grand, orchestral sounds and stories in music with melody as a guiding principle. The eleven-member .seed gives a new twist to her music with every performance.
Soon, the new album by Cassie Kinoshi and .seed will be released, the successor to gratitude which came out in 2024 on the International Anthem label from Chicago. This acclaimed album was a collaboration with the London Contemporary Orchestra and DJ/turntablist NikNak. Cassie Kinoshi won the Ivors Academy Award in 2018 and the Mercury Prize in 2019. As a member of Nérija and Kokoroko, she was part of a generation of young bands that gave a new impulse to British jazz.
'This important work brings together aspects of jazz and classical music, but always feels contemporary and reflective of urban British life' (UK Jazz News about gratitude).
