Cellofest: Emir Cello, Kaan Yazici + Sander van Elferen
Rock, metal and Indonesian krontjong.
The Indonesian cellist and composer Alfian Emir Adytia has previously performed at the Cello Biennale and now returns with a three-piece band for the concert version of his album Decolmuseum (Decolonisation Museum). The album tells the story of his ancestors who fought for independence in Indonesia and also symbolizes his own 'decolonization', breaking free from the chains of trying to fit into a certain music genre.
The traditional sounds of Indonesian folk music alternate with progressive rock and metal. This interdisciplinary performance – with images and archival videos from pre-independence Indonesia – is not only an impressive musical performance but also a tribute to human resilience.
Emir Cello (Alfian Emir Adytia) cello/guitar/vocals, Kaan Yazici bass guitar vocals, Sander van Elferen drums
