Cellofest: Metrocelli

The four cellists of the Metropole Orkest.

The four cellists of the Metropole Orkest, also known as Metrocelli, specialize in jazz, pop, and world music. They function as a band and use the versatility of the cello to the fullest. The raw, shredding sound of Nirvana, funky bass guitar rhythms, or the warm, muted trumpet sounds of trumpeter Ibrahim Maalouf: the Metrocelli conjure it with a great deal of creativity and craftsmanship from their instruments.

In doing so, they do not forget the poetic side of the cello, as evidenced by their restrained interpretations of traditional folk melodies.
