Dungeon synth emerged in the early 90s in the underground of black metal, where musicians used synthesizers and cheap keyboards to further build the dark, medieval atmosphere of their music. Guitar walls gave way to lo-fi synths, ambient, and melodies that sound like the soundtrack of a lost fantasy game. Old cassettes, Tolkien-like worlds, early RPGs, and dark ambient became part of a genre with a completely unique cult status. On Saturday, October 31, Segadeath, Fragmented Memories, Amn, Catacombes, and Weress bring that world to Patronaat for Dungeon Synth Halloween Night. The five international and Dutch acts showcase different sides of the genre: from dark ambient and classic dungeon synth to fantasy synth and cosmic electronics. Think forgotten VHS horror, dusty fantasy books, 16-bit adventures, and a Dungeons & Dragons campaign that derails deep into the night. Halloween is the perfect moment for that. So wear whatever you want: cape, armor, pointy hat, VHS slasher, or just black. The dice can also come along.
