Legendary chipmusic club night returns for 40 years of EKKO

To celebrate EKKO's 40th anniversary, EINDBAAS returns with a new edition. EINDBAAS is a club night where artists perform live with music created on — or inspired by — vintage game consoles such as the Nintendo Game Boy and Commodore 64, combined with modern synthesizers and drum machines. Chipmusic, as the genre is called, sounds futuristic and nostalgic at the same time: energetic, quirky, and nowhere else to be heard. Expect an evening where retro aesthetics and contemporary club music come together in a way you won't soon forget.

Since the first edition in 2009, EINDBAAS has organized nearly thirty club nights in Utrecht and Amsterdam, featuring more than 120 artists from around the world live on stage. From Japanese chip composers to Swedish synth pioneers, from bitpop to breakcore — the musical diversity within the scene is vast. EKKO has always been the home base, and the combination of niche music and an intimate dance floor where everyone can be themselves has secured EINDBAAS a permanent place in Utrecht's nightlife.

Laamaa has over 25 years of experience in tracker and chiptune music and is an established name in the rich Scandinavian chiptune scene. His compositions are melodic and complex, with an impressive mastery of synthesis — regardless of the strict limitations of the hardware he works with. Whether it concerns productions for the ZX Spectrum, DOS, or Game Boy, Laamaa knows how to handle it!

We weren't joking when we talked about the Scandinavian scene. Earlier this year, Sm0hm released a track on the well-known 8bitpeoples label. This chiptek extraordinaire has been quiet for a while, but we are glad he decided to dust off the Gameboy and NES once again. With these old systems, he produces pounding club music that pulls you completely into the here and now.
