ENEMY (Downes/Eldh/Maddren)

Three tightly-knit masters from Berlin and London, dedicated for ten years to exploring new horizons.

In Enemy, three top players challenge each other with cryptic rhythms and quirky beats, reacting at lightning speed and improvising in utmost concentration. The members are based in Berlin and London and have been working together in this formation for ten years, creating a super tight trio that is widely appreciated. The British quality newspaper The Guardian described their music as 'fiercely intense' and 'beautifully intricate'.

Besides Enemy, all three members are also active in many other formations. Pianist Kit Downes has worked with, among others, Mica Levi, Squarepusher, and Bill Frisell and has won important awards as a solo pianist and organist. Bassist Petter Eldh previously performed with us with innovative bands such as Koma Saxo and Økse. And James Maddren drummed with Marc Copland, Gwilym Simcock, and Jacob Collier. Fiend, the most recent album of Enemy, was released on Edition Records, just like their self-titled debut from 2018. In the meantime, the trio released albums on ECM Records and We Jazz.
