Extince – 30 Years of Speech Water

The godfather of Dutch hip-hop is still number one

'Mighty, powerful, Doctor P-esque rhymes that stick with you until your eightieth birthday.' With these words, thirty years ago, Extince single-handedly caused the absolute Big Bang of Dutch hip-hop. A Dutch-language rap track in the top 10? That was previously impossible – but suddenly the rules of the game had completely changed.

And it turned out not to be just this one hit. Spraakwater proved to be the prelude to the classic album Binnenlandse Funk: one of the key records of Dutch-language hip-hop, with which Extince paved the way for everything and everyone who came after. Opgezwolle, Fresku, De Jeugd—they all name Extince as one of their major sources of inspiration.

Three decades later, the hip-hop game has changed completely, but the Spraakwater still flows freely. On September 25, this living legend – along with his resident DJ DNS – comes to De Helling for an old-school hip-hop show that will stay with you until you're eighty.
