Hudson Freeman

Promising folk troubadour from the digital age with a full band

'Is a Folk Artist' is the thinly veiled name of Hudson Freeman's debut album from 2025. And indeed, there is little to argue against: Hudson Freeman is a folk artist – but one of the most atypical of his generation.

This young TikTok troubadour from the Midwest creates a melancholic mix of bedroom pop, folk, slowcore, and post-emo. Music shaped by a religious upbringing, moral struggles, fleeting friendships, and a search for connection in a digital world.

Perhaps even more striking is the path Freeman took to indie success. As the child of two Evangelists, at the age of thirteen he traded a sleepy neighborhood in Texas for the African mini-kingdom of Eswatini, after which he shed his religious roots and moved to Brooklyn.

So, a young global citizen with enough stories in his pocket for several more albums. And Hudson Freeman is far from done traveling. This year he performed at Luck Reunion, Newport Folk Fest, and Into The Great Wide Open. He also toured as a support act for giants Mumford & Sons and Foxwarren. On February 15, he comes to De Helling with a brand new album in tow.
