Jacht
Hannah and Wiebe met eight years ago in Amsterdam East. This led to a relationship and Jacht. They found common ground in their shared love for melancholic lyrics and harmonies, and initially started as a duo. With the arrival of a drummer, Jacht grew into a band.
Seven years after its founding – and the release of two EPs, Halfweg (2021) and Bij Tijd en Wijle (2023) – Jacht felt the need to reinvent itself musically. Hannah and Wiebe had completed their studies and their focus shifted: alongside personal themes, there was increasingly more room for social and political topics. The music became rawer, darker, and more urgent. With drummer Wietske Hora Adema and guitarist Ben Reick, Jacht found a new lineup and began writing an album.
On Ze Noemen Me Een Dromer, personal stories and social criticism come together. For instance, Zondebok was created following the PVV's election victory, Sterk Hart deals with the consequences of the oppression of women, and the title track depicts the longing for a better and more just world. At the same time, love is also celebrated in Zonder Jou and Steeds Weer, in which the big world gives way to something small and intimate. This variation is reflected in the arrangements; sometimes dreamy and melancholic, sometimes raw and outspoken.
Musically, the band has broadened significantly. Influences from trip-hop acts like UNCLE and Massive Attack can be heard, but the polyrhythmic schizophrenia à la The Smile has also made its way into the new work. Additionally, the drums have been given a prominent role, revealing a touch of Fontaines DC.
With the new album, Jacht reinvents itself: a new lineup, a new sound, and a new perspective on the world. Darker, more direct, and more ambitious — but still unmistakably Jacht: Hannah and Wiebe's multi-layered vocals remain the heart.
