Jeremy Ledbetter Trio

Sensational new-style piano trio with members of Snarky Puppy and Steve Coleman and Five Elements.

In his home country of Canada, Jeremy Ledbetter is known as a true piano sensation: nimble-fingered, energetic, and with a complex yet accessible style. This has led to comparisons with the great virtuosos of jazz piano from the past half-century. With his regular trio, he has already won a Juno Award, the Canadian equivalent of a Grammy, for the album Gravity. It's high time for the debut of this trio on our stage with bassist Rich Brown, from Steve Coleman and Five Elements, and drummer Larnell Lewis, from Snarky Puppy.

Originally classically trained, Jeremy Ledbetter traveled through Latin America and the Caribbean after his jazz education to broaden his horizons. In Trinidad and Tobago, he became the musical director in the band of calypso icon David Rudder. In Brazil, he played with Hermeto Pascoal, and in Venezuela and Cuba, he collaborated with many big names. As a pianist and producer, he worked with musicians in Latin, jazz, soca, calypso, and salsa. In his trio, all these influences are combined.

‘Ledbetter’s playing brings to mind flashes of Corea, Hiromi and even Monty Alexander, such is his ability to fuse many disparate styles into his own richly flavoured personal brew – the power of Brown and Lewis bringing both balance and bounce to the group sound’ (Jazzwise).
