Jorge Rossy Vibes Quartet

New quartet of Spanish vibraphonist, formerly known as drummer of Brad Mehldau.

Jorge Rossy is considered one of the most influential drummers of his generation; he can be heard on more than two hundred recordings with musicians such as Brad Mehldau, Mark Turner, Joshua Redman, and Kurt Rosenwinkel, and toured with icons like Charlie Haden, Wayne Shorter, Lee Konitz, and Joe Lovano. Additionally, he developed his own voice on vibraphone and marimba, which he showcased on his ECM debut Puerta (2021) and on the duo albums The Wait with Kevin Hays and Red on Maroon with Michael Kanan.

For this new quartet, Rossy stays with the mallets, in ever-changing roles: sometimes he shares the frontline with the trumpet, sometimes he provides the harmonic and rhythmic foundation. Trumpeter Milena Casado, called a revelation by The New York Times, released her debut Reflection of Another Self last year. Bassist Robert Landfermann won the Deutscher Jazzpreis (2022) among others, and Swedish drummer Cornelia Nilsson debuted with Where Do You Go?. Rossy previously played with all three individually, but this is their first performance as a group, with his compositions and arrangements as a starting point.

“Rossy plays his vibraphone with a fine sense of space and silence, moving as a soloist with restraint yet with a swing that is rare in today’s jazz.” – Georg Spindler, Mannheimer Morgen
