The Norwegian power trio Kanaan excels in psychedelic instrumental rock as only Scandinavians can master it.
In their ten-year existence, Kanaan is also releasing their tenth album in October of this year, simply titled 'Kanaan'. And besides this studio output, the three Norwegians of Kanaan have more than earned their stripes live as well. Their mix of heavy riffs and thick grooves breathes the spirit of Hawkwind during the Lemmy era, but CAN, Ash Ra's Temple, and Jimi Hendrix are never far away either. Numerous surprising twists and turns pass by alongside beautiful and soft passages, but time and again, the band demonstrates above all masterful musical craftsmanship. It sounds as if they have set a new standard for themselves with their mix of krautrock, fuzz, jazz, and psychedelia. In any case, it makes one eagerly look forward to this live show once again.
And because we can, we are turning this Wednesday evening into a very fine double bill with the addition of the British band THE TELESCOPES , founded in 1987 and already at the time one of the founders of the thriving UK noise and shoegaze scene of the late '80s and early '90s, with records on the legendary Creation Records and contemporaries such as My Bloody Valentine, Loop, Swervedriver, and Spacemen 3.
Fast forward nearly 40 years and The Telescopes are still a band worth seeing. The band's latest, 19th (!) release on Tapete Records this year, 'Static Charge', delivers exactly the sound the band is so well known for: droney and spacey, slowly meandering guitars and haunting vocals that slowly creep under your skin, and are as British as milk in your tea.
This band and its mainstay, frontman Stephen Lawrie in particular, was, is, and remains legendary. A perfect opportunity to see these standard-bearers in action.
