After a wonderful performance at Crossing Border, singer/artist Klaske Oenema and musician/writer Nyk de Vries join forces. Together they perform in a program full of poetic songs. Klaske sings songs from her new album Piano, paper, scissors ; Nyk from his album Hoeveel woorden and songs inspired by his latest novel De Baptisten .
Klaske Oenema combines music, poetry, and visuals in a disarming way with the aid of an old-school overhead projector. Around this light source, spoken and sung stories emerge, plucked from paper, meticulously cut from everyday life, presented so casually that it seems as if they arose spontaneously. Her songs and images possess a daring simplicity and enchanting beauty.
Musician and writer Nyk de Vries is an intermediary between different worlds: city and countryside, high and low culture, and perhaps most of all: between music and literature. He lives in gentrified Amsterdam East but grew up in a Frisian village of farmers and laborers. From 2019 to 2021, he was Poet Laureate of Friesland. Previously, he was the singer of the band The Amp and played for a long time with fellow student Meindert Talma.
