Loes Luca & Teleruptor: Marie Galante
Musical performance around Kurt Weill's chansons for Marie Galante.
In Marie Galante, actress Loes Luca tells the story of the main character from the novel of the same name written by the French playwright Jacques Deval in 1931. A young Parisian woman is kidnapped by a sailor and left on a Caribbean island, where she tries to survive in a hostile environment with one desire: to return to France. Luca brings the story in Dutch translation and sings, accompanied by the musicians of Teleruptor (with former members of the Willem Breuker Kollektief), the French chansons that Kurt Weill composed in 1934 for the stage adaptation of Deval's book.
Do not be surprised if other repertoire emerges along the way, because in addition to Weill, there are arrangements of David Bowie, Tony Williams, Archie Shepp, John Cale, Jerry Goldsmith, and Willem Breuker. All music is arranged by Bernard Hunnekink, Rob Verdurmen, and Bob Zimmerman.
Loes Luca vocals, David Kweksilber reeds, Frans Vermeerssen reeds, Gerard Bouwhuis piano, Arjen Gorter bass, Rob Verdurmen drums, Martijn Grootendorst video
