Mo van der Does’ Motet

Seven-piece band full of Dutch jazz talent presents vinyl of live album, recorded in our hall.

Alto saxophonist Mo van der Does has played with the Metropole Orkest, the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw, All Ellington, and the Tijs Klaassen Quintet, and has won awards such as the Prinses Christina Concours and Keep an Eye: The Records. For his seven-piece Motet, he writes music with the power of a big band and the agility of a small ensemble, exploring composition, orchestration, and improvisation with Charles Mingus and Maurice Ravel as sources of inspiration.

After the well-received debut Motet (2022), the band recorded Live at Bimhuis in December 2024 for our REFLEX series, part of BIMHUIS Productions. The album has already been released digitally; this evening, Motet presents the vinyl version. Lyrical melodies and combative grooves alternate, as do intimate, melancholic passages and orchestral outbursts.

'But the most beautiful thing is that the saxophonist and his six band members sound not only refined but also very fiery.' (Trouw)

Alistair Payne trumpet, Mo van der Does alto sax/clarinet, Matthias van den Brande tenor sax, Jessie Brevé bass clarinet, Floris Kappeyne piano, Tijs Klaassen double bass, Wouter Kühne drums
