Scott Hamilton & Rein de Graaff Trio ft. Philip Catherine

Masterclass in straight-ahead jazz by iconic saxophonist with all-star band and Belgian guitar legend.

Scott Hamilton is one of the few tenor saxophonists of his generation who consciously chose the path of swing and bebop, at a time when many contemporaries were heading towards free jazz or fusion. His warm sound aligns with the tradition of Ben Webster, Coleman Hawkins, and Zoot Sims, also shaped by trumpeter Roy Eldridge. He played with greats like Ella Fitzgerald and Benny Goodman, and according to The Guardian, he embodies the timeless essence of jazz.

Tonight, Hamilton stands alongside his regular band members pianist Rein de Graaff, double bassist Marius Beets, and drummer Eric Ineke, with whom he previously recorded the live album Live at the Jazzroom. A special addition is guitar legend Philip Catherine, who has been at the forefront of European jazz since the 1960s and collaborated with greats like Chet Baker, Charles Mingus, and Dexter Gordon.
