The Norwegian metal band Shining plays what they themselves call 'black jazz': blistering avant-garde metal with electronic influences and a nice, searing saxophone. Musically, 𝗦𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚 sits somewhere in the vein of Devin Townsend and Dillinger Escape Plan, although older rockers will also recognize the industrial sound of Ministry. The driving force of the band is Jørgen Munkeby, not only the singer/guitarist but also responsible for the equally virtuosic saxophone solos.

Following the scorching live album Blackjazz Live At The Heavy Water Plant from 2024, work is currently underway on a new studio album. Be warned, however, that Shining comes into its own best live, crushing you like a musical steamroller.
