Tineke Postma Group ft. Theo Bleckmann

Adventurous saxophonist explores new sounds around wind, voice, and spirit.

Saxophonist and composer Tineke Postma continues to grow and explore new sounds. With her ninth album VOYA, released on the Swiss label Clap Your Hands, she continues this quest along untrodden paths. The title simultaneously refers to 'voyage', 'voice', and Oya, the Yoruba wind goddess of transformation, breath, and storm. Thus, VOYA is a journey through wind, voice, and spirit.

This fall, Postma plays with her Tineke Postma Group: David Dorůžka on guitar, Robert Landfermann on double bass, and Tristan Renfrow on drums. After years of touring together, their interplay sounds experienced and personal, built on trust and attentive listening. The group is complemented by the idiosyncratic New York singer Theo Bleckmann, whose vocal color is also heard on the album. The music also echoes the spirit of Postma's mentor Wayne Shorter, honored in her rendition of his composition A Place Called Somewhere.
