Tomeka Reid Quartet
Cellist leads one of the strongest regular quartets in contemporary jazz.
Cellist and composer Tomeka Reid is considered one of the most original voices in the vibrant jazz and improvisation scene of Chicago. Her melodic sense, always rooted in a strong groove, brought her into ensembles of greats like Anthony Braxton and Roscoe Mitchell, and of a younger generation of visionaries around Nicole Mitchell and Mike Reed. Since her debut as a bandleader in 2015, her quartet has grown into one of the most acclaimed regular bands in contemporary jazz.
Together with Mary Halvorson (guitar), Jason Roebke (bass), and Tomas Fujiwara (drums), Reid presents with her regular quartet the new album 'dance! skip! hop!' on Out Of Your Head Records. The title arose when she noticed that her compositions always made her move, and that playful elan is heard throughout. After years of touring together, the quartet sounds more refined than ever, but also takes the risks that only a fully attuned band can afford.
'As transportingly good as jazz gets.' (All About Jazz)
