Toon Tellegen & het Wisselend Toonkwintet – God onder de mensen

Narrator and quintet connect absurd literature, philosophy, and music in a performance about a God who doubts himself.

‘God knew everything, but not whether he existed.’ Sometimes he is a hermit, then he is arrested for misconduct or turns out to be an exceptionally good ballet dancer. Even in summer, he wears a thick winter coat, and he regularly doubts whether people love him. Does he actually believe in himself? He once sits in someone's head, is caught in adultery, and is occasionally unreasonable and malicious, but also loving and insecure. He resembles a human suspiciously, but is still always God.

In God onder de mensen, writer Toon Tellegen and the Wisselend Toonkwintet, led by guitarist Corrie van Binsbergen, bring music, literature, and philosophy together, in an atmosphere that shifts between melancholy and longing, absurd reasoning, and festive adventurousness. The ensemble rarely performs and has only played this program once before. The concert concludes with a selection from their animal stories.

Toon Tellegen narrator, Joost Buis trombone/lapsteel, Corrie van Binsbergen guitar, Albert van Veenendaal piano, Hein Offermans bass, Alan Purves percussion
