Van Eijck / Brinkmann / Vespestad
Pianist and composer explores the cosmos with an intimate trio of piano, cello, and drums.
Sjoerd van Eijck, Jörg Brinkmann, and Jarle Vespestad found each other in 2019 at a Carte Blanche concert in Paradox Tilburg. The musical connection was immediately clear and led to further collaboration: the trio created the album Pegasus, a suite inspired by astronomy and the imagination of the cosmos. Van Eijck's compositions form the core of the program, but it is the ensemble that determines the sound: piano, cello, and drums create a space that moves between jazz, chamber music, and contemporary improvisation.
Drummer Jarle Vespestad is internationally known for his long-standing collaboration with ECM pianist Tord Gustavsen. Cellist Jörg Brinkmann combines classical cello techniques with improvisation in a way that enriches both worlds. Together with van Eijck, they form a trio that merges composition, timbre, and improvisation into an intimate musical conversation.
